Effective May 6th, 2014 per Subchapter M of the Private Security Administrative Rules:
(c) - All registrants not specifically addressed in this section shall complete a total of eight (8) hours of continuing education, seven (7) hours of which must be in subject matter that relates to the type of registration held, and one (1) hour of which must cover ethics. Following the initial registration period, qualified managers of Class B licensed companies may take a one (1) hour course devoted to changes in laws and rules applicable to the security industry, as a substitute for the above one (1) hour ethics requirement.

Initial Certification: During the first twelve (12) months of initial registration, each person employed as an alarm system installer or alarm systems salesperson must complete Alarm Level I training, consisting of sixteen (16) hours of classroom instruction or equivalent online course as approved by the department, with two (2) hours covering the National Electrical Code (NEC) as it applies to low voltage.
Renewal Certification: Any person employed as an alarm systems installer or alarm systems salesperson must earned eight (8) hours of continuing education credits in an alarm related field, with one (1) hour covering the National Electrical Code (NEC) as it applies to low voltage, during each subsequent twenty-four (24) month period. This requirement must be satisfied prior to the expiration date of registration in order to renew the registration.
(k) - Alarm monitors shall complete four (4) hours of continuing education in subject matter that relates to the duties and responsibilities of an alarm monitor.
(l) - All persons registered or licensed as locksmiths must complete sixteen (16) hours of continuing education every two (2) years
Texas Private Investigators are required by Private Security Bureau rules to complete the required continuing education as follows:
Private investigators and managers of Class A and Class C licenses with more than fifteen (15) years of continued registration as a private investigator or manager of a Class A or Class C license shall complete a total of twelve (12) hours of continuing education, eight (8) hours of which must be in subject matter that relates to the type of registration held, two (2) hours of which must be over ethics, and two (2) hours of which must involve the review of Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1702, and the Board's Administrative Rules, Tex. Admin. Code, 37 TAC 35.
Private Investigators and managers of Class A and Class C licenses with less than fifteen (15) years of continued registration as a private investigator or manager of a Class A or Class C license shall complete a total of eighteen (18) hours of continuing education, fourteen (14) of which must be in subject matter that relates to the type of registration held, two (2) hours of which must be over ethics, and two (2) hours of which must involve the review of Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 1702 and the Board's Administrative Rules, Tex. Admin. Code, 37 TAC 35.

Section 34.615 Test
(e) An applicant for a license must complete and submit all application requirements within one year of the successful completion of any test required for a license; otherwise, the test is voided and the individual will have to pass the test again
Sec. 6002.203. RENEWAL PROCEDURES.
(d) An individual or organization whose registration certificate or license has been expired for two years or longer may not renew the certificate or license. The individual or organization may obtain a new registration certificate or license by complying with the requirements and procedures for obtaining an initial registration certificate or license.
What are the educational requirements for an Electrician?
Electrician licensees must complete four (4) hours of continuing education in courses approved by the department. These courses must address the following:

National Electrical Code, as adopted under Title 8, Occupations Code §1305.101, or the current version of the National Electrical Code, as approved by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

State law and rules that regulate the conduct of licensees

Safety as defined in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E.
In lieu of taking four hours of continuing education as required in §73.25(b), an electrical apprentice or electrical sign apprentice may enroll in a department-registered apprenticeship training program.
Continuing education courses must be completed within the term of the license being renewed. For example, if a license expires on January 4, 2014, the continuing education courses taken to renew that license must have been taken between January 4, 2013 and January 4, 2014.
For a late renewal, the continuing education courses must have been completed within the one year period immediately prior to the date of renewal.
Licensees may not receive continuing education credit for attending the same course more than once. Further, licensees must retain a copy of the certificate of completion for a course for one year after the date of completion. In conducting any inspection or investigation of the licensee, the department may examine the licensee’s records to determine compliance.
